BLACKSBURG, Va. — Police are investigating a shooting Monday in Eden. William Wayne Martin II, 24, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and shooting into occupied property in a shooting at 406 Henry St., a police report said.
Jimmy Edward Tinsley, who lives in the home, called Eden police because someone was shooting into his home about 1:30 p.m.
Officers found Martin in a vacant house in a wooded area. Martin, of 421 Kings Drive, had an assault rifle. Tinsley was not hurt in the shooting.
Eden police Capt. Reece Pyrtle said what's most troubling about the incident is how close the shooting took place to the Bridge Street recreation center. The center is only a few hundred yards away.
Pyrtle declined to comment on a motive for the shooting. He said Martin and Tinsley knew each other but declined to discuss details.
Martin is being held on $300,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court April 24.
